Cold Laser For Pain, Wounds, Stroke and More

Low intensity (cold) laser therapy has been found to improve or eliminate symptoms related to many conditions, including pain, wound healing, inflammation, traumatic brain injury, a variety of skin conditions, and more.

I have my own experience with the healing power of light that I will share with you here.

However, do not be surprised because as you know babies with jaundice are healed with light therapy.

Cold laser allows light to penetrate deep into the tissue to reduce inflammation, increase mitochondrial activity, and cell regeneration. That’s why Olympic and professional sports teams use cold laser therapy for faster recovery from injury and exercise.

During cold laser therapy, different wavelengths and outputs of low-level light are applied directly to a targeted area. The body tissue then absorbs the light. The red and near-infrared light cause a reaction, and the damaged cells respond with a physiological reaction that promotes regeneration.

Superficial tissue is commonly treated with wavelengths between 600 and 700 nanometers (nm). For deeper penetration, wavelengths between 780 and 950 nm are used.

Although you’ll feel the laser device touching your skin, the procedure is painless and noninvasive. There will be no sound and you’ll feel no vibration or heat. Each treatment typically takes only a few minutes.

Dr. Michael Hamblin is an Associate Professor of Dermatology at Harvard Medical School and a member of the Affiliated Faculty of Harvard-MIT Division of Health Science and Technology. He has done a lot of research on cold laser therapy and believes someday we will all own a device at home to treat various conditions.

In this article, he explains how several brain disorders can be treated with cold laser.

The evidence for pain-relieving effects of the cold laser is so strong that the American College Physicians includes “low level laser therapy” as one of the recommended treatments for low back pain.

Dr. Oz and Dr. Mercola have done programs about the healing properties of the cold laser. Currently, chiropractors, acupuncturists, veterinarians, physical therapists, and professional sports teams use it.

My own experience with light therapy has been with the red LED light that has 660nm wavelength.

Once I learned about cold laser therapy, I immediately looked to see what's available on Amazon and came across TenDlite. It has hundreds of reviews. Most love it and some don’t. Since it came with a 60-day risk-free guarantee, I ordered it. The following are some of the incidents I used it for.

Incident #1. A couple of days after it arrived my water bottle fell on my wrist from three feet above. It really hurt. Initially, I applied an ice pack then remembered TenDlite. A few minutes after I applied it the pain was almost completely gone. If I pressed on my wrist bone it hurt, but on its own, it did not hurt at all. Couple of more applications and it was back to normal. I was impressed but not fully convinced. Incident #2. Then while shopping at Costco on a Saturday a distracted shopper rammed her shopping cart into the back of my right ankle. OUCH! I limped back home in a lot of pain. I applied TenDlite on my ankle bone, which was pretty sore. Then sat back on the sofa and rested my foot on the coffee table. A minute or two later when I moved my foot a little, I did not feel any pain. That was too good to be true, to say the least. Then I started to walk on it a little. It was tender but no pain. I went up the stairs to get something. My ankle and foot felt a little bit of pain. A few minutes later, I went up the stairs again and no pain or discomfort. I did another treatment before sleep. No pain all night. My right heel was a bit sensitive to pressure the next day as I walked, but two more treatments and a day later it was fine. Incident #3. Another time when I overstretched and had pain around my ribcage it got rid of pain fast. Incident #4. I strained a few abdominal muscles after some deep yoga stretches. Very painful. I applied TenDlite and it did not work, even after treating the area 3 times a day for five days. So it has its limits.

I bought one for my 81-year old mother to use for her stiff knees. For more than ten years she has had stiff knees. When she sat for more than 30 minutes or so they became very stiff and painful to get and walk. She had tried cortisone shots, physical therapy, medications, creams, and so on. After just two days of TenDlite she is 80% cured and gets up from a seated position so comfortability that she caught the attention of all her friends.
